We were invited to the opening of a new business venture of a long time Omani friend of mine. Since we were a little early, we decided to drop by at the hospital and pick up the report. I was almost certain, it will not be ready. At the counter I said,
'Good evening, we were here yesterday for an Ultrasound Scan, and your power went off. I was told I could collect it anytime later. I am here for the report'
I said it in a tone, that was not friendly, but more like don't even think of telling me come back. As my voice was laced with irritation.
The lady at the counter, very warmly and kindly told us,
'Please take a seat, I will be back with it'
All that act with a patronizing tone I did, was lost here. We sat down. Next to us was this couple. She was pregnant 7 months (so we were told later), and her partner must have been pregnant since the time of Noah! Going by months, I guess that is what happens when you are pregnant for too long. He looked like a whale! Must be the food in this region. Minutes later, the lady came up to us, smiled and handed us the scan report in an envelope.
'Thank you'. Ingrid said.
We opened it, and there it was.
I can now say, without a doubt, that a baby is on the way. I have seen it on paper.
As we were looking at the images, the couple next to us did see our happiness.
'Congratulations', The man said. The lady followed.
We wished her well too and left.
Got back home, and whilst writing this, I thought it might be a good idea to scan the image and put it up here. But then, I am all for privacy and rights of individual. At some later date, I do not want to be sued for placing pictures on a public domain without permission. Hence, I used my known talent of drawing. Here is what ET looks like. I think it is a pretty good facsimile of the original.
Now that I have the reports I am deciphering the information in it. From what I understand.
It says, C.R.L is 19.1mm. The C.R.L is known as the Crown-Rump-Length. It is the length of the fetus from the top of the head (Crown) to the bottom of the buttocks (Rump). Well makes sense. ET is 19.1mm (or 1.91cm). Not very big!
8W + 4D. The Fetus is exactly 8 weeks and 4 days old (on the 8th of Feb 2012). They have a formula to work this out from the C.R.L. Love this! Apparently,
Age (weeks of pregnancy) = C.R.L + 6.5
It states, E.D.D (USG) is 15/09/2012. E.D.D is the Expected Date of Delivery. In this case it is the 15th of September 2012.
Oh..and the heard beat: It says, F.H.R is 183 BPM. F.H.R is the Fetal Heart Rate defined in beats per minute. 183 Beats per minute is what we have. That explains why I heard it going so fast.
Every thing is within the range of normality.
