Kylskåp! is pronounced, 'she'll-scope'

Emilija and Michaela are two beautiful girls who are the daughters of my dear friend Carina.   Carina is the kind of person who defines what a friend is.  I love her to bits.  She also happened to be one of my first friends when I moved to Sweden in 2005.  I would also add, best friend to that.

On one of our first outings to the local hotel dance,

'How long are you?' she asked me.

I was flabbergasted!  Being warned and  being aware of the fact that Scandinavian are generally a bit more open to sex than the rest of the world.  Still, this was way out of the warning zone. It was as if a  Hydrogen bomb went off on my face.

I must have had the  look of a  hyena  being goosed!  

Still, I kept my calm and said,‘Excuse me!’

'How long are you?'  again she went.

Seeing my scandalized exasperation mixed with embarrassment, she said it in Swedish,

'Hur lång är du?'

Which when directly translated to the English language, is 'how long are you'

It took me a a few moments  to compose myself and realize she was referring to my height.   Apparently, that is how it is asked in swedish.

'183cm' I said.

Nice!

Her 2 daughters are nothing but a bundle of joy.  Being a frequent visitor to her home and them popping by at my apartment, often I would hear a word that I thought was the most beautiful sounding word.  It was a Swedish word.  It definitely had a lovely sound to it.

Kylskåp! Pronounced,  'she'll-scope'

So exited I used to get, that I would tell Emilija and Michaela often, that if I had a child that is what I would name it.

You know where this is going.

I have decided that ET is going  to be know as ET aka  Kylskåp  after this.  Does not matter what it means.  At least for the next  trimester.

Kylsöp is also the first real and useful Swedish word I learnt.
