20th June 2012:
I have
collected the reports. The Glucose
Screening is all clear. Everything is in order. ET is doing fine, so is Ingrid.
We back for
the service. Sorry, I mean visit to the doctor. As we wait, she walks in smacking her lips! There have a new assistant now. A small framed Philipino. the kind that the doctor puts in her pocket and walks around.
‘Ms.Ingrid?’ The nurse says. ‘Please come in.’
In we walk,
and in chorus we say, ‘Good Evening!’
No
response. Who cares for a good evening!! After all, she is the doctor,
and we are the lowly humans. Why should
she greet us? She is doing us a favour
by seeing us. So it seems. Does not matter that they are charging us.
She is busy
filling in some report or form in her usual manner. And then after some moments, she says,
‘Hello! How are you?’
‘You need
the Flight Fitness Certificate, no?’ she
says.
'No! we need a rocket engine!!!' I want to say. pfft!
‘Yes’ I say.
Turning to
her computer, and goes busy typing.
‘Give the
correct spelling for your name, Ok?’ She
says. As if Ingrid does not know to
spell her own name. Out comes the print out.
‘You have
all the reports, no?’ She asks.
‘Yes, I
have everything!’ I tell her, showing my folder very proudly.
‘What about
the medicines?’ She asks.
‘We have
bought everything for the coming months.'
I tell her, ‘Yes we have! Infact
we got everything for the coming months so we do not have to buy them there’
She shakes
her head like a Bharatha Natiyam
Dancer. Which is how all Indians
shake their heads. I do sometimes too.
‘Please go
there!’ she tells Ingrid, pointing at
the bed. She wants to do a procedural ultrasound, which is perfect. So goes about it, and maps the heart beat. Which now stands at 158 beats per minute. Perfect!
‘Everything,
is ok! So don’t worry!’ matter of factly she say. That was what we wanted to hear. We plan to leave, end of the month. Tickets booked and all ready. It is going to be exciting.
And this
time, while we leave the doctor actually smiled. Wow!
How lucky for us.
‘Please
come and show the baby’ she says. This
was the first time she seemed to say something genuinely correct. We are happy to be out. Outside, we are not sure if it was a free consultant. Hence, we inquire from one of the friendly faces we see often.
‘No
problem! You can go’ She says happily. But then, the doctors nurse
comes in and informs us that we have to pay.
What a disorganized hospital this is.
We pay and
leave!!!!
